About Mel
Welcome, I’m so glad you’ve found your way here,
I welcome guests from all walks of life and hair types, though I’ve discovered a special talent for working with curly and textured hair. My mission is to help each person embrace and celebrate the beauty of their curls, and I’ve built my craft around honoring the uniqueness of every individual who sits in my chair. Rooted in the Cedar Valley, my work extends beyond state lines, drawing clients from neighboring areas who seek out my expertise in curly hair care.

Driven by a constant thirst for knowledge, I sharpen my skills each year through advanced training at professional academies. I also have my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, this blend of artistry and strategy enables me to create exceptional guest experiences and allows me to mentor fellow professionals in the beauty industry. I own two salons and directly lead a team of stylists, guiding them toward their individual goals and encouraging them to one day become salon owners themselves.
While there may be many stylists who work with curly hair, my approach stands out for its celebration of every unique texture, comprehensive understanding of different curl types, and how to care and cut them, and unwavering commitment to fostering genuine connections. As a person of color, I’ve experienced firsthand the importance of honoring our differences. My mission extends beyond the salon chair—I strive to build a space where every background, every story, and every type of curl is embraced and celebrated.

When I’m not in the salon, you’ll find me watching one of my son’s baseball or hockey games, immersed in a great book, or volunteering. My commitment to community has led me to serve on the Black Hawk County Gaming board and volunteer with the Junior League of Waterloo-Cedar Falls, where I connect with diverse groups and support local initiatives—further reflecting my dedication to inclusivity and empowerment. I cherish every connection I’ve built with my clients and continually seek to expand my circle, welcoming anyone who wants to celebrate their natural beauty.

My husband and I are proud to call the Cedar Valley home, where we’re raising our two grade-school-age boys. We love the strong sense of community here and feel fortunate to watch them grow and learn in such a close-knit, supportive environment.
I'd be honored to help you discover your hair’s unique type and texture. If you’d like to learn more or schedule a consultation, feel free to book an appointment—or send me an email if you have any questions. I’m here to support you every step of the way.
